One Size Does NOT Fit All

For the longest time I hated shopping for jeans! Shopping is my favorite thing to do, but whenever I went, it was short-lived, especially if my husband went with me because I would try on a couple pair of jeans and none would fit.

You know the saying, if mama ain't happy....

It got to the point where my husband did not want to go...I think that's most men anyway. He would get tired of me dragging him from store to store, oogle these jeans that looked sooo good on the hanger, then try them on just knowing they would fit nice...and they didn't fit past my thunder thighs.

I will admit, that the way jeans fit you makes a huge difference. We are all shaped differently so I started to understand it's not just the jeans, it was the cut too.

And The Jean-Finding Journey Began

I remember one day having alll this money. I decided that day to shop at then Bon Marche, now Macy's. I loved that department store. I told myself. I am going to make myself stay in there for as long as I could until I walked out with a nice pair of jeans that FIT. No matter how frustrated I got. I remembered going to all the different brands, grabbed different colors, lengths, stretches and price ranges and tried every single one on. After 2 hours (funny how time flies) I found a perfect pair from DKNY. They said the jeans ran pretty generous and I wass content. So DKNY was the thing.

Fast forward gaining weight, a couple of kids and more weight gain. DKNY was no longer my friend. But it wasn't all me.

Common Problems when Finding The Perfect Pair of Jeans

  • The jean fits fine, but leaves a wide gap at the waist. Wearing a belt makes it look worse.
  • The pants are not true to size. For instance, a size 12 fits like a 10, but may fit okay with a different jean brand.
  • Pants look like they fit, but you can't get them past your thighs.
  • There isn't enough stretch.
  • The cut is awkward for your figure
  • Sadly, most jeans didn't consider that some may have a bigger butt than others...a longer or shorter torso than others...so they have this one size fits all jean. Not cute.

FIND YOUR PERFECT PAIR

I first heard of PZI Jeans when the advert spammed my email inbox. But the fact it said women with curves, it caught my attention, so I went to the site and was blown away by how they are made.

Each pair of pants is made with a slight stretch and fits so there is no gap in the waist. They come in varying lengths to accommodate the many different heights of a woman. The jean is designed to contour around the waist so it hugs the hips and smooths the figure. They have sizes for all types of women and shapes. I'm a thick one, so that was very important. The stretch helps make the jean extremely comfortable. These jeans are true to size and feel very nice against your body. They also don't cause the muffin top some of us with flabby tummies get. They have a variety of styles, shades and the price of these pants are not too bad. I would check out their clearance section, they usually have some great stuff, but the size you are looking for may be limited.

Only downfall is that I'm not sure I would go with their size chart.I did it verbatim and ordered the wrong size. Two sizes to be exact. But they have a return and exchange program, so I got the correct size and I just ordered a bunch after I made sure they fit.

If you know you are a curvy woman, I would highly recommend giving PZI Jeans a try.

On To Baby Phat Jeans

I LOVE Baby Phat Jeans! Aside from PZI Jeans, Baby Phat has got it right. Their jeans do the same as PZI Jeans. They are also true to size. I can honestly say that of all the Jeans I've tried...Dereon (by Beyonce), Apple Bottoms, and even that darn DKNY..they don't fit like PZI or Baby Phat. What I also like about Baby Phat Jeans, is that they design some of them with 'crooked' belt loops. This will give the illusion of having a curvier body and/or booty.

The only thing you have to watch for with these jeans is the length. They don't have the variety of lengths on all of their jeans like PZI does. The price range of the jeans will be about the same, ranging from $69 - $89...and they keep for a very long time.

These two companies are the only ones I shop at now and I do purchase online because they have sales you won't find if you went into the stores.

Happy Jean shopping!

Being a curvy black woman in an Asian country, I come across great difficulties finding well fitting jeans that are sexy and stylish. I was looking for baby phat jeans when I came across your page. Thanks for introducing me to PZI jeans. I just got off the website and I am so excited to start shopping. Good looking out sis!

One more thing. You stated that although you followed the size chart, the first pair you ordered did not fit. Were the jeans too small or too big? Would you suggest ordering up or down and by how many sizes?
